Lucienne Weinberger, painter and sculptor living at Westbeth Artists Housing in the heart of the West Village, NYC.  Her work has been exploring the emotional connections in people with the use of color and freeform shapes.  Over the years, Lucienne’s work has developed with two prominent directions.  One is involved with figurative imagery where iconic figures are brought to life with a dreamlike narrative. These include works on canvas and paper, and fired clay sculptures using colored acrylic paints and collage mounted canvas.  The images are basically symbolic in nature.  The meanings of the symbols are not premeditated but emerge from an unconscious source as the forms develop.

The second body of work are the abstract paintings and drawings.  These works utilize visual elements which deal with color relationships and composition which generate a sense of energy.  The interaction of the visual elements often create an animated surface which are often playful and whimsical.    The 3 dimensional wall constructions, assemblages made from small chips of wood, are glued together bringing  unpredictable visual surprises.  She studied art in Paris for several years, and continued for two years painting at the Art Student's League with a Merit Scholarship. Later, she received a fellowship for the MacDowell Colony.          photos @2023 salem krieger
